Mumbai, 14th April, 2017: Today, EverydayMumbai project on Instagram announced that they are one of the five finalists in the prestigious Social Media For Empowerment awards 2017 in the Journalism category on social media. The Winners and Special Mentions will be revealed on stage at the 4th Social Media for Empowerment Awards 2017 at India Habitat Center, Lodhi Road in New Delhi on April 29, 2017.
Digital Empowerment Foundation, the organization behind SM4E awards has always been dedicated towards finding Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions for the under-served communities to make a fairer, more inclusive India. It is extending its same motto of communicating and enduing masses, this time “with social media” by initiating “Socialmedia4empowerment” portal where social media evangelists can gather under one umbrella to connect and communicate with the world with a trust that “may be it takes time, but changes do happen”.
On EverydayMumbai’s nomination as one of the finalists from 162 nominations across 09 categories, creator photographer Chirag Wakaskar said, “It feels great for the project to be recognized as attempting to help create dialogue & awareness amongst the residents of the city as well as rest of India about important topics of social relevance. The project has been completely non-commercial and I’ve consciously shared photo stories of acid attack survivors, transgender, homosexuality, climate change, and similar stories that create a dialogue.
About EverydayMumbai : EverydayMumbai is a photography based crowdsourced project on the popular social media platform Instagram. Started back in July 2014, the project has been well recognized by both general public with over 115,000 followers as well as being featured in several media outlets such as CNN, Mashable, Guardian, HuffingtonPost, Forbes Brasil, Hindustan Times, Condenast Traveller, Firstpost, etc
