The host: Jimmy Kimmmel is hosting the ceremony. It’s his first time. “Yes, I am hosting the Oscars. This is not a prank,” the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host tweeted shortly after the news was announced in December. “And if it is, my revenge on @TheAcademy will be terrible& sweet. Thx to @alsformalwear.”

The 2017 Academy Awards – the crowning jewel in Hollywood’s annual self-congratulatory tour of award shows – is set for Sunday.

With nine films up for the Oscar for Best Picture, the favorite seems to be “La La Land,” the homage to Hollywood’s era of love story musicals. The movie is up for 14 Oscars, Best Picture and lead actor and actress nominations included.

It’s that time again. The BAFTAs have happened, the Golden Globes have been and gone, and the Big One is upon us. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the Oscars will be returning on Sunday, February 26 for your annual dose of Hollywood glamour and Jennifer Lawrence tripping over her dress.

The most dedicated among us won’t be happy with second-hand statuettes, so how can we catch the 89th Academy Awards live? Here’s your definitive guide to watching the Oscars ceremony:

First things first – when are the Oscars? The ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 26 at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

What counts as a civilised evening out for Hollywood types (from about 4pm) is much later for us GMT-ers in the UK, with the red carpet opening at midnight and the ceremony kicking off at 1.30am on Monday morning. (Though Alex Zane will begin the UK preview show at 11.30pm.)

Predicting the length of the Academy Awards ceremony is a tricky business, but the average is about 3.5 hours so brew plenty of coffee and be ready to come out on the wrong side of 5am. 2002 set the record for the longest ceremony at 4 hours and 23 minutes. You have been warned.

Sky has crowned itself king of Oscars broadcasting, and is the only (legal) place in the UK to stream the ceremony live.

It’s set up a dedicated Sky Movies Oscars channel to broadcast the show. That launches today (February 20) and will be screening Academy Award-winning movies of all sorts in the run-up to Sunday night, and afterwards ’til Sunday, March 5.

You can also stream through Sky’s on-demand service NOW TV with a Sky Cinema Pass. NOW TV can be streamed in all the usual ways – on Mac and Windows or smart TVs, through its Android and iOS apps, or through the NOW TV Box, Roku, consoles, Apple TV, Chromecast and all the other places you’ve come to expect.

When is the Oscars 2017 on?

However, the night may likely be remembered more for its political slant then for the awards handed out, if other award shows this year are any indication.

Here are the specifics on the show – the time, channel and where it is being

Handing out the awards: Samuel L. Jackson, Kate McKinnon, Amy Adams, Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson and Charlize Theron are among the presenters at Sunday’s ceremony.

Performances: Among the performers set for the show are Sting, John Legend, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Justin Timberlake.
