#Tagged Emerges As the Grand Prize Winner of the 9th Annual New Media Film Festival®

Martijn Winkler’s short online film #tagged bags home the grand prize of the 9th Annual New Media Film Festival® 2018, $45,000.00 in Awards.

#Tagged has been named the grand prize winner of the 9th Annual New Media Film Festival®, an annual international film festival for innovative content in Hollywood, $45,000.00 in Awards. The jury consisted of eminent representatives from the Hollywood industry: from the Emmys, HBO and Marvel. The festival also honored actor and producer Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski) with the Socially Responsible Conservationist Award, for his new documentary ‘Living in the Future’s Past’ which premiered at the festival in the presence of the makers. The mandate of the festival is, Honoring Stories Worth Telling. #Tagged won out of 110 New Media Films & Content from 40 countries with 36 World Premieres, 7 US and 26 Premieres.
Part of the main prize is a series of personal meetings with Hollywood big players, such as HBO and Marvel. “What a tremendous honor to win this prize,” says Martijn Winkler, scriptwriter and director of the film, “and an opportunity to pitch my ideas for new films and series here in LA is of course crazy. The unique online film #tagged highlights the contrast between the lovely intimacy and the devastating power of social media – told from the perspective of a 14-year-old girl’s smart phone. Producer VERTOV made the film in-house, in collaboration with KRO-NCRV and NPO 3LAB, with the aim to stimulate discussion about the role of devices and social media in our lives.
