Playa del Carmen, Mexico August 2, 2017  – In 2016, the World Tourism Organization announced that Mexico was the eighth most visited country in the world receiving thirty-five million tourists last year. The country also garnered the prestigious accolade for Best Family Destination, International at this year’s Travvy Awards held in New York City.

Expedia was the latest to give recognition to the popular world destination by announcing Playa del Carmen as the number one ‘Friendliest  City in Latin America.’ The decision was based on comments received by Expedia users from around the globe. The main attributes examined centered around the level of the city’s general hospitality, comfort, and tranquility.

Other cities nestled in Mexico’s glorious Caribbean to make this list included Puerto Morelos at #5, Cozumel at #7, Xpu Ha at #23, Akumal at #25 and Isla Mujeres earned 26th spot. In the first quarter of 2017, Mexico recorded 9.3 million visitors. It is clear that a fear of violence is not deterring millions of people from exploring the country and having wonderful experiences.

Placing #20 on Trip Advisor’s 2017 Top 25 Destinations – World list, Playa del Carmen has become the vibrant nucleus of the flourishing Riviera Maya In Mexico’s South Eastern Region. When considering the types of travelers who book with Bric Vacation Rentals the company’s reports show an even spread of percentages between families, snowbirds and singles/couples.

It seems that Playa del Carmen checks many, if not all of the boxes on a tropical destination wish list. Beyond the fine white sand beaches, the area is replete with culture, history and natural beauty. The area was named a top dive destination in the world by the famous underwater explorer, Jacques Cousteau in the 1960s.

PGA tour-worthy golf courses are situated just past the outskirts of the city. Enchanting Mexican Caribbean islands like Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, Isla Contoy and Holbox are just a short ferry ride away. The Xperiencias Xcaret Group has created six exceptional parks within forty minutes of Playa del Carmen.

A lower cost of living compared to Canada and the United States along with excellent medical facilities are attractive to families and retirees. Currently, it takes under fifteen minutes to cross the city on the highway, so traffic jams are a very rare occurrence.

Domestic and international flights are convenient from the Cancun International Airport, only forty minutes from Playa del Carmen. This is an important factor for many of the international travel influencers such as Matt from Expert Vagabond, Anna from Anna Everywhere and Adam and Hannah from the blogging duo Getting Stamped who have called Playa del Carmen home. When asked to describe Playa del Carmen, Adam answered ‘Central to everything. Not too busy like Cancun and not too sleepy like Tulum.’

What was once an obscure treasure hidden within the Yucatan Peninsula jungle, Playa del Carmen has transformed into a lively mecca for artists, entrepreneurs, and investors. Although the city has come a long way as far as the goods and services it offers, it is still a small city with plentiful business opportunities.

A common thread encountered in Playa del Carmen is that many vacationers eventually become residents, or repeat guests at the very least. Locals and visitors alike experience a bigger bang for their buck and are able to live a quality of life that dreams are made of, even just for a week. So it comes as no surprise that proud Playenses, a charismatic mix of Mexican nationals and a burgeoning expatriate community, are happy.
