  • Devan: We have been using Tigris net but now as the old team is leaving they are selling their satellite for like 3 or 400 dollars. The only issue is that we are having lots of problems with Tigris net on reliability lately and also some typye of litigation from the Taji side even though we live on the Iraqi side so dont fall under same jurisdictions as they do (they have to use US Comz and are barred from Tigris net now). As far as if they will provide Tigris net we are unaware at this time but we would like some type of service and also a reliable service. What would we need and do we have to run wires and if so how powerful would the satellite be in laymans terms. How far would it extend and how many people would it support without slowing it down. I like to be able to call home with a clear phone call versus a distorted or a dropped phone call from Skype or Yahoo. I am not an IT guy but I do have a clue about IT happenings. I just want to square the new guys away as I still have 5 months or so left here with them and the old team is leaving.
  • David: The platoon uses a USB device (Edge Modem). From china mobile through acww. It costs $130 for the equipment then $20 a MOnth after that. But you only get about a 4kb-11kb recv rate. Most the time it doesnt work at all. We need an alternative via satellite.
