New Satellite Phone Thuraya XT



Thuraya Telecommunications Company announced the launch of the world’s toughest satellite phone, the new Thuraya XT.

 

Thuraya is the world leader in mobile satellite handhelds, and the launch of the Thuraya XT will enhance the Company’s position in the market. The mobile satellite operator provides blanket coverage in more than 140 countries spanning from Iceland to Australia.

 

The innovative satellite handheld is the most rugged and reliable phone in the market. Designed with the most advanced features to ensure resilience, Thuraya XT is the only satellite phone complying with world telecom IP54/IK03 standards by which it is splash water resistant, dust and shock proof. The phone has a glare-resistant display with an internal brightness sensor allowing perfect readability outdoors because of its ability for low reflection in bright environments.

 

Contributing to the reliability of the phone, the new Thuraya XT has a battery life with talk-time of up to 6 hours and standby-time of up to 80 hours which is unprecedented in the mobile satellite industry.

 

The handset’s GmPRS capability allows users to send and receive e-mails as well as browse the web with a laptop or PC from any location.

 

The new phone also has an in-built GPS-Navigation feature, permitting users to create and manage Waypoints. These can be used to navigate from a fixed location to various Waypoints, showing the distance and direction to each.

 

The Thuraya XT also provides messaging via SMS, e-mail, fax and Organiser services and supports 12 languages.

 

The innovative product is one of the smallest satellite phones, weighing only 193 grams adding to its usability by customers who need a robust and compact phone.

Thuraya Sponsors Global Space Technology Forum 2009



To support the development of the UAE and Middle East as a hub for space related industries, Thuraya Telecommunications Company is actively supporting an international specialised forum on space technology to be held in Abu Dhabi 7th December. Held for the second year at Abu Dhabi Exhibition Centre, the Global Space Technology Forum (GSTF 2009) attracts leaders and decision makers in the commercial, military and government sectors from around the Middle East, Africa, Far East and Indian subcontinent.

 

Thuraya is one of the sponsors of this three-day event which outlines global policy relating to private ventures and future projects in space, new technology and research efforts making space access easy and affordable.

 

Thuraya’s Chief Technology Officer, Ali Saeed Al Mazrooei will be a keynote speaker at the first panel session where he will highlight Thuraya’s perspective on “The need for an organised regional space sector and collaboration.” The Company will also be exhibiting its competitive products in the exhibition area.

UAE Satellite Company Expands Network.



Thuraya Telecommunications, the United Arab Emirates based satellite operator has expanded its distribution chain in Europe, WAM news agency informed on Saturday.
The UK-based satellite communications provider Applied Satellite Technology (AST) will now distribute Thuraya’s broadband service “ThurayaIP” and other solutions based on it in Europe and other global markets.

 

“ThurayaIP, with its portable size, speed and versatility, is designed to be the most competitive high-speed offering in the mobile satellite broadband market. As such, it is anticipated to see a great demand in Europe where the operations of several vertical markets rely heavily on Internet-based communications,” informed Thuraya’s Chief Executive Officer Yousuf Al Sayed.

 

ThurayaIP is a small broadband solution with transmission speed of up to 444 Kbps. It was the first satellite broadband terminal to achieve video streaming speeds of up to 384 Kbps.
