Globecomm Systems Awarded $17.7 Million U.S. Government Agency Contract to Provide Global SATCOM On-The-Move Communications.



Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM), a leading global provider of satellite-based communications infrastructure solutions and services, informed that the Company has been awarded a contract from a U.S. Government Agency under the Commercial SATCOM Terminal Program (CSTP) which is part of the Project Manager (PM) Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) and Program Executive Office: Command, Control and Communications Tactical (PEO C3T) under the World Wide Satellite Systems (WWSS) Program to provide global SATCOM On-The Move (OTM) communications. The contract is valued at $17.7 million with options for significant additional quantities and services. Globecomm Systems will lead this effort for the U.S. Government providing program management and services. The Linkabit division of L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) will work with Globecomm Systems as a subcontractor responsible for development and production of the terminals.

 


Pursuant to the terms set forth in the contract, Soldier Node Extension Prophet (SNEP) Satellite Terminals will be integrated, configured, and provided along with training and logistical support services. The SNEP will operate in a hub-spoke and mesh architecture to provide beyond line-of-sight range extension to OTM users. The SNEP will employ the MPM1000 Net Centric Waveform Satellite Modem to provide Multi-Frequency-Time Division Multiple Access Bandwidth on demand technology for tactical mobile operations.

 


The SNEP terminals shall operate on commercial Ku band and military Ka band on the Wideband Global Satellite (WGS) Systems. The SNEP terminals are capable of delivering global SATCOM OTM communications and when deployed they will interoperate with commercial and military hub terminals employed in various modes of operation.

Joint IP Modem Contract Calls For Continued Globecomm Production.



Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM) has informed the U.S. Army has exercised a $2.3 million contract option for the continued production of the Joint IP Modem (JIPM).

 

On November, 12, 2007, the Company informed that it had been awarded a contract from the U.S. Army’s Communications—Electronic Life Cycle Management Command under the Program Executive Office Enterprise Information Systems Project Manager Defense Communications and Army Transmission Systems’ World Wide Satellite Systems program to provide the JIPM. The contract was initially valued at $9.9 million and included multiple options that if fully exercised over the next 16 months would value the contract at $87 million. The exercise of this option now brings the base contract to $17.7 million, with $69.3 million of options remaining over the next 16 months.

 

Globecomm is the prime contractor for the JIPM effort, delivering program and contract management. Under subcontract to Globecomm, ViaSat Inc. (Nasdaq:VSAT) is responsible for the network system and modem design, including the integration of DVB-S2/DVB-RCS open standard IP technology. The goal of the JIPM effort is to leverage commercial technology to the maximum extent possible, while delivering an open-standard based approach, which can form the basis of interoperability for military users. Pursuant to the contract, the JIPM network-centric IP modem will be the DoD standard network IP modem for use on military and commercial satellites to provide demand-based satellite communication transport services to the warfighter. The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Program Executive Office for SATCOM, Teleport, and Services manages the JIPM initiative. DISA will field the Joint IP SATCOM Modem in the DoD Teleport Generation 2 rollout.
