‘Wonderland’ Chosen As HBO Asian Pacific American Visionaries Award Finalist

“Wonderland,” Directed by Tiffany Hsu and Co-Produced by Bochen Zhang, Chosen as HBO Asian Pacific American Visionaries Award Finalist

Online PR News – 08-February-2017Wonderland, co-produced by Bochen Zhang, has been awarded second place for the HBO Asian Pacific American (APA) Visionaries Short Film Competition.

As one of the APA Visionaries winners, Wonderland will receive a monetary prize and will screen at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival in April. The filmmakers will also have the chance to premiere Wonderland exclusively on HBO and associated digital platforms in May when HBO celebrates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

Starring multi-award winning Chinese actress Joan Chen (The Last Emperor, Judge Dredd, Marco Polo), Keith Reay (Dracula: Reborn, God of Thunder) and newcomer Audrey Hui, Wonderland follows Adeline, played by Hui, a 12-year-old girl who struggles to keep her mothers gambling problem in check as they spend Christmas in Las Vegas awaiting the arrival of Huis father. The film was written and directed by Tiffanie Hsu. The films producers were Domenica Castro and Pin-Chun Liu. Constanza Castro was also a co-producer.

In addition to the HBO APA Visionaries Award, Wonderland also took home the Alumni Jury Award as part of UCLAs MFA Spotlight at the Director’s Guild of America and was chosen as an Official Selection of the Hawaii International Film Festival.

Joan Chen is such an icon of Chinese cinema. It was the thrill of a lifetime to work with her, said Zhang. As a Chinese woman and a filmmaker, Im grateful to HBO for offering a platform for independent producers to tell diverse stories from underrepresented voices.

Bochen Zhang is a Hollywood-based producer originally from China. She has produced films in China and the U.S., including co-productions with Chinese and U.S.-based production companies. Zhang has also produced award-winning digital content for Jeep, SK-II and Johnson & Johnson. Zhang was a guest lecturer at University of New Orleans and American Film Institute, where she earned her MFA.
