Thuraya’s Rugged Satphone comes with GPS, data and friendly menu

In recent months, Thuraya Telecommunications Company introduced a new satellite handheld branded Thuraya XT. The uniqueness of this innovative satellite phone is that it is a blend of ruggedness and practicality.

The company designed the menu of Thuraya XT after a process of serious testing and the result is a simple and very maneuverable menu that allows customers to access a series of advanced applications. Supporting twelve languages, Thuraya XT’s menu is very logical and neat making the phone’s features very accessible to the customer because of its simple commands.

The world of satellite communications is no different because customers of this industry are also in need of practical yet simple to use handhelds to satisfy their communication needs. Since satellite phone users are almost always in remote and outdoor locations with limited access to modern telecommunication facilities they expect a lot from their handhelds.

The satellite phone becomes the only source for communication, safety and emergency services meaning that it has to provide advanced features and at the same time be very easy to use.

“Thuraya XT is the ideal device for satellite phone users because it is almost unbreakable. You can drop it, splash it with water, expose it to dust and it will remain functioning properly. This is because it is the only satellite phone with an IP54/IK03 certification which is an international standard for ruggedness. It is a well-rounded gadget that offers the best service in harsh environments, applications which are useful to the user and in a design that is very sleek,” said Mr. Lachner.

He elaborated that Thuraya XT’s reliability is supported by the fact that it is the only satellite phone that has up to 6 hours talk time and 80 hours standby time making it very practical for customers who spend large portions of time outdoors and in remote locations.

When Thuraya designed the handheld, they took into consideration very significant details. This is evident in the way the phone casing is made of the latest polycarbonates, has an aluminum shield protecting the inside components and rubber seals on all plugs to protect the phone. In addition, Thuraya XT has an internal sensor which determines environmental brightness and adjusts the backlight accordingly which means that the menu is easily readable even in bright outdoor environments. The sensor also contributes to the longevity of the battery because it reduces backlight in the dark when only low light is needed.

Thuraya is the world leader in mobile satellite handhelds and the launch of Thuraya XT confirms the Company’s leading position.
