SWE-DISH – Mobile Satellite Communication and SATCOM-on-the-Move

SWE-DISH Satellite Systems, a DataPath company, is a world-leading supplier of compact and quick-to-air broadband satellite terminals for live transmission of video, data, internet and voice content from anywhere in the world.

Mobile satellite communication terminals
SWE-DISH develops and manufactures mobile and highly portable satellite communication terminals that range from 0.9m up to 1.5m size antennas using Ku, Ka and X-band. Thanks to its antenna design, Gregorian offset antenna, efficiency gain is 20% compared to other antenna systems.

All SWE-DISH products are designed with the user in mind, and are highly portable, rugged, compact, and able to withstand rough conditions whilst remaining reliable in all situations. They are tightly sealed to keep out sand, dust and water, and rigorously tested to surpass the toughest environments and standards.

Suitcase, fly-away and drive-away antennas
The SWE-DISH product line includes:

•Suitcase terminals; small, mobile and compact terminals (0.9 and 1.2m)
•Fly-away antennas; high performance and easily transported
•Drive-away antennas; vehicle mounted antennas
•SATCOM on-the-move; broadband communication on the move
Common modular system architecture
CommuniCase® Technology (CCT) is the platform for all future SWE-DISH products, incorporating modularity, flexibility and ease-of-use. CommuniCase® Technology includes a set of seven modules which can easily be changed for new system behavior. All modules are easily switched between systems, so a user can quickly remove the modem from a Suitcase® CCT90 and plug it into their Drive-Away CCT120. That same modem can also be used with all future SWE-DISH CCT systems, thus proving foward-compatible and highly cost-effective.

Each CommuniCase® module has a unique entity, so the software will automatically recognize a newly connected module and reconfigure settings such as azimuth range, amplifier power and modem type without user intervention. The number of CommuniCase® product variations and possible module combinations that can be built and used is impressive.

Modules include:

•CCT Antenna system (0.9m and 1.2m)
•CCT Transceiver (ex, Ku, Ka and X-band)
•CCT Network Processor (SCPC, iDirect, L-band)
•CCT Controller (IP65, rack mounted)
•CCT Software (Java based graphical user interface (GUI), SDS (smart distributed system) detects which CCT modules are combined and automatically updates the system and the GUI)
•CCT Power Supply
•CCT Auxiliaries
CommuniCase® Technology features include:

•A modular concept across SWE-DISH product families
•Common antennas, software platform, GUI
•Future-proof terminals, easily upgraded and interchangeable
•Leverage on investment in currently owned systems
•Reduced training cost, common parts and intuitive handling
•More efficient spare part handling
•Easy to change modules in the field for changed system behavior
SATCOM on-the-move
SWE-DISH and world leading stabilized platform developer Saab systems have joined forces in developing a high performance SATCOM on-the-move terminal (four-axis antenna system) that enables broadband satellite communications with land vehicles and marine vessels while moving at top speed.

SWE-DISH changed the way the world looks at satellites with the introduction of the Suitcase® class of terminals. Small, ultra-portable and broadband-capable, the SWE-DISH IPT Suitcase® was the world’s first fully integrated IP terminal and the first of its type to be awarded IPSTAR and AsiaSat certificates, approvals from Intelsat, Eutelsat, Europe*Star, Hispasat, and a license from the FCC.

The Suitcase® family comprises of:

•Suitcase® CCT90 and Suitcase® CCT120 – based on the modular CommuniCase® Technology with interchangeable antenna, transceiver and modem for different system behavior
•IPT Mil Suitcase® – Fully integrated IP satellite terminal designed to military specifications and for true tactical deployment
•IPT-i Mil Suitcase® – integrated iDirect modem – low bandwidth cost, and easy, flexible network set up

  • Devan: We have been using Tigris net but now as the old team is leaving they are selling their satellite for like 3 or 400 dollars. The only issue is that we are having lots of problems with Tigris net on reliability lately and also some typye of litigation from the Taji side even though we live on the Iraqi side so dont fall under same jurisdictions as they do (they have to use US Comz and are barred from Tigris net now). As far as if they will provide Tigris net we are unaware at this time but we would like some type of service and also a reliable service. What would we need and do we have to run wires and if so how powerful would the satellite be in laymans terms. How far would it extend and how many people would it support without slowing it down. I like to be able to call home with a clear phone call versus a distorted or a dropped phone call from Skype or Yahoo. I am not an IT guy but I do have a clue about IT happenings. I just want to square the new guys away as I still have 5 months or so left here with them and the old team is leaving.
  • Michael: Would like to know more about your systems. Do you have individual systems? Do you have 10-15person systems? What are the costs of each and how fast can I purchase/order? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
